Going into the final round of the Formula 2 Championship, UNI-Virtuosi Racing and their driver Callum Illott both stood second respectively in the Teams and Drivers championships.
Illott scored well with fifth place in the Feature Race on Saturday to close the gap slightly to the Drivers championship leader, and team driver Guanyu Zhou with second place scored his sixth podium of the season. This enabled UNI-Virtuosi to secure second place in the Teams Championship.
With nothing short of a win required to secure the Drivers Championship, during Sunday's Sprint Race Illott was able to work himself up to 3rd, passing his title rival in emphatic fashion who dropped back into the field following a mid-race tyre change. Unfortunately in pushing to overtake in the early part of the race, Illott's tyres were no longer optimal and he was unable to close down the 5 second gap to the leading cars and could not overhaul the point defecit and finishes his F2 campaign as 2020 Vice-Champion.
